Sourdough Starter

Our starter was created in house from wild yeast in the air using a mixture of rye flour and hard white wheat flour and filtered water. This combination created a very active, strong starter that we have kept going for years. This is the starter we use daily to make our delicious sourdough creations you can purchase at our Farmstand and online for pickup.

We keep our starter in a mother jar which gets fed daily as we use it in our breads and to make small starters for you to use at home.

To maintain and use this starter simply transfer it to a larger container. Feed equal parts by weight flour of your choice and non-chlorinated water to reach the desired quantity for your recipe. Don’t forget to save some!!

We store our starter on the counter and feed daily, however we know that home bakers are not necessarily baking every day like we are! Sourdough starter can be fed and placed in the refrigerator to stay dormant. Take out and feed every week to retain activity.

With proper care and feeding a sourdough starter can out live generations. Each starter will take on its own life gaining yeast from the environment it is in. It really is a living thing!
